Shoe Cubby

A shoe cubby is a great place to store shoes all in one easy to locate place. Many people put these by their back door and put all their shoes in it. Most of them will hold 20-30 pairs of shoes, even a large men's pair, and the ones made of plastic will easily withstand the outdoor elements. The cubby compartments will keep the shoes from getting mixed up with other pairs, they are open for easy access and easy viewing. Small shoes like flip flops can even be stored in the same cubby space if you need to start stacking.

One big advantage is that these cubbies are cheap. Plastic versions are colorful and priced around $30. More expensive wood versions are available if the cheaper models would seriously clash with your decor. However for most mud rooms and back porch areas this style is fine.

This kind of shoe cubby is also good in a closet; out of sight. If you find that you need something to organize your shoes but don't want to pay for a more ornate storage option and don't need to have it in plain sight of everyone, then something sturdy and durable for your closet is a better option.

The standard cube layout is the most common type of cubby, but there are other more ingenious designs as well. One of them is basically 4-5 clear shoe boxes that have pull out slots for storing your shoes. This keeps them dust free and seperate enough to not crush each other (important for dress shoes). You can easily see them so you're not hunting through dozens of boxes, these are see through.

There are also fabric versions that are collapsible when not in use and hanging units that you can mount on your closet wall if you're out of floor space.

My favorite style is the simple and colorful plastic cube option priced around $30. It can be tucked in a closet and the colors let you display your own personal style.
